Four Advantages of Having a Commercial Floor Maintenance Plan in Place

Image
To ensure that your business's floors are professionally maintained, it's crucial to hire a commercial cleaning company that specializes in floor care. It's not enough to simply choose an attractive floor covering; proper maintenance is required to keep your floors in top condition. We'll discuss four reasons why incorporating a floor maintenance plan into your janitorial services is essential: Increased Revenue and Customer Attraction: Businesses want to boost their revenue, and the appearance of your floors can play a significant role in attracting or deterring potential clients. Stains, dirt, and visible markings on carpets or hard floors can give the wrong impression. Well-maintained floors, especially in the lobby or entrance points, can contribute to an increase in revenue. Healthier Environment:  As a business owner, you must prioritize the health of your customers and staff. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that around 30% of acute...

Color Coding Microfiber Cloths

Image
Meaning can be lost during the process of translation. One effective way to enhance communication is to utilize color-coded systems. Color-coding can simplify communication by indicating the appropriate tools for a particular situation. This is especially valuable when dealing with microfiber cloths. Microfiber cloths consist of tightly woven synthetic fibers, like polyester and nylon, and are more efficient at cleaning compared to traditional cloths. By implementing a color-coded system for microfiber cloths, cleaning consistency can be increased, and the risk of infection and cross-contamination can be minimized. The Responsibility of Janitorial Service Providers in Preventing Infections within Healthcare Facilities

Image
Infectious disease experts have observed a concerning resurgence of previously eradicated germs and the emergence of new viruses and bacterial infections. This underscores recent findings by research scientists, emphasizing the urgent need for healthcare facilities worldwide to continuously improve their infection control measures. One of the most effective ways for healthcare facilities to combat these infections is to partner with commercial janitorial service providers (JSPs) that specialize in healthcare facility cleaning. This recommendation applies not only to inpatient healthcare facilities like hospitals but also to outpatient facilities such as pediatric associate offices, urgent care clinics, and outpatient rehabilitation centers. To understand how infectious diseases spread and interact with the environment, it is crucial to comprehend the Chain of Infection, a series of six interconnected links that describe the transmission of communicable diseases. Each link in the chain...

5 Things That Your Professional Commercial Cleaning Company Should Avoid

Image
Below are the 5 things that your professional commercial cleaning company should avoid: 1. Cleaning your facility without insurance and bonding: Your cleaning company should have insurance and bonding to cover any damages or injuries that may occur during the cleaning process. Always ask for proof of insurance to avoid being liable for accidents. Skyline Building Care is a fully insured and bonded cleaning company. 2. Using the same cloth for different tasks: Using the same cloth for multiple tasks can lead to cross-contamination and the spread of germs. Color-coded microfiber cloths are a better option as they are hypoallergenic, non-abrasive, and washable. 3. Missing inspections:  Regular inspections are crucial to ensuring that your cleaning company meets your standards. Skyline offers direct communication with your cleaning technicians to ensure you are always satisfied with the service. 4. Using bleach to clean: Bleach is corrosive and toxic, and can damage surfaces and fabric...

Below are four frequently touched areas in the classroom that janitors should prioritize when cleaning. Horizontal Surfaces:  Classroom desks and countertops are some of the most frequently touched surfaces in the classroom, and they can harbor germs and bacteria that can spread quickly. It is essential that janitors regularly clean and disinfect these surfaces to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Door Handles Top the List of Germiest Office Areas

Image
You might be surprised to find that a recent survey found that toilet seats are not among the dirtiest and most dangerous places in establishments. In fact, five of the top ten germiest locations are outside of restrooms. Surfaces in office kitchens, on the other hand, seem to be a major worry. Top on the list for 2023 was door knobs, which had 30 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. Office sinks came in second, having 23 times the amount of germs, followed by microwave doors in third, having 19 times the amount, mobile phones in fourth, having 16 times the amount, and water kettles in fifth, having 13 times the amount of bacteria. Restroom faucets carry 11 times more bacteria than a toilet seat, but that is not until you reach the sixth location. Women’s History Month

Image
As we observe Women's History Month, it's important to recognize that achieving gender equality is a vital obligation for each one of us. To be a supportive ally, we must first listen, learn, and comprehend that female colleagues may have distinct experiences from male colleagues within an organization. It is then our responsibility to take actionable steps to support the progress towards the gender-equal society we all desire, while fostering a culture that aligns with our values. By cultivating an atmosphere in which every person has an equal opportunity to contribute, develop, and thrive, we create a win-win situation for all. #WomensHistoryMonth #genderequality www.skylinebuildingcare.com 800-407-1377

Cutting the Rainy Day Blues with Commercial Janitorial Services

Image
Introduction We’ve all experienced the disappointment of a rainy day—where plans are postponed, outdoor events cancelled, and spirits dampened. But what about commercial janitorial services? Does rain put them out of business too? Not necessarily. Read on to learn how commercial janitorial services can still be productive despite the weather.  The Power of Preparation The key to any successful endeavor is preparation, and this is especially true when it comes to janitorial services in inclement weather. The first step is assessing the forecast before scheduling any outdoor work or services. If bad weather is expected, managers should anticipate it and make sure there are plans in place for alternative tasks that can be brought indoors in case of a downpour.  Some of these tasks can include deep cleaning carpets, detail-oriented window washing, or thorough restroom maintenance. While these jobs may not be as glamorous as a pressure washing exterior walls or sidewalk scrubbing, ...

Spring Cleaning Here are some tips to help you get started with your spring cleaning: Declutter: The first step in spring cleaning is to get rid of any items that are no longer useful or needed. Fitness Center Cleaning Checklist

Image
Fitness centers require extensive cleaning and sanitization due to the high-touch surfaces of exercise equipment that can easily carry bacteria and viruses. Regular cleaning and sanitization are essential to prevent adverse health reactions in people with weak immune systems or high sensitivity to pathogens. To achieve the highest standard of cleanliness, gym owners must focus on disinfecting areas frequently touched by gym members, including the entrance hall, lobby, reception desk, changing room, free weights area, showers, bathrooms, administrative offices, and water dispenser. Certain objects that are likely to be frequently used and handled, such as free weights, gym mats, barbells, kettlebells, and dumbbells, must also receive particular attention. For daily gym cleaning, it is recommended to sweep and vacuum the floor, wipe down benches and chairs in the lobby and exercise area, disinfect the receptionist's counter, mop and disinfect large rubber mats in the weights area, di...

Hand Towels Versus Dryers - Which is Better?

Image
Europeans have modified their hand hygiene habits since the COVID-19 pandemic by washing their hands more frequently throughout the day and opting for paper towels when drying hands while out and about. A recent mask study supports these preferences and suggests that consumers are correct. The study, conducted by the Leeds Institute of Medical Research at the University of Leeds and the Department of Microbiology of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, shows that contamination of hand dryer users through splattering was 10 times higher when using jet air dryers compared to paper towels, and contamination of other washroom users was also significantly greater. The study emphasizes the importance of hand drying for optimal hand hygiene, which removes microbes remaining on hands following poor hand washing, reducing the spread of infection in the community. Participants in the study dried their hands using either a jet air dryer or paper towels while wearing face masks to measure the risk ...

Why are more Businesses Choosing Green Cleaning

Image
An increasing number of businesses are embracing sustainable and eco-friendly practices to improve their brand image, reduce operating costs, and minimize their carbon footprint. As part of this trend, many companies are turning away from traditional cleaning methods and opting for green cleaning services. Unlike commercial cleaning products that contain harmful chemicals, green cleaning products utilize natural substances to effectively clean spaces without damaging the environment. Green cleaning products are typically made with organic materials, free of phosphates and chlorine, contain no artificial fragrances or colorings, and come in biodegradable, reusable, or recyclable packaging. Switching to green cleaning products offers numerous benefits, including clean and environmentally friendly spaces, no toxic fumes, no harmful residue, eco-friendly packaging, lower cleaning costs, and an improved brand image among sustainable consumers. However, it is important to be wary of greenwas...

Hello or Goodbye to Your Cleaning Chemical Inventory

Image
In early 2020, the uncertainty surrounding the global pandemic prompted facility cleaning managers to stock up on cleaning supplies and equipment to prepare for the contagious virus. However, as lockdowns and work-from-home measures reduced occupancy loads, cleaning demands also decreased. This resulted in excess inventory of unused cleaning chemicals, many of which are nearing or passing their expiration dates, leaving cleaning teams with the task of using them up or disposing of them properly to avoid future backlogs. Excess inventory of cleaning products is a common and costly problem, and companies are still dealing with the aftermath of overbuying during the pandemic. Many products were overpriced due to elevated shipping costs, and they continue to incur costs related to storage and potential disposal. Experts recommend using cleaning chemicals before they go bad to avoid eating the cost of excess inventory. While many cleaning products remain shelf-stable for years if they are u...

Recent Report Provides Insights into Patients' Perceptions About Cleaning

Image
According to a recent report by Compass One Healthcare, a healthcare support services company, and Press Ganey, a healthcare consulting company, patients' experiences in ambulatory care facilities, such as doctors' offices and outpatient surgery centers, can affect their perceptions of the setting's cleanliness. The report was based on data gathered from over a million post-procedure patient surveys. The key findings of the report include: A statistically significant relationship exists between a patient's perception of the facility's cleanliness and signs of infection outside the facility. Patients who did not feel that the facility was clean were 2.3 times more likely to report signs of infection after leaving the ambulatory care setting. Three patient experience factors impacted patients' perceptions of cleanliness the most: the courtesy of non-clinical staff members, feeling comfortable during their experience, and the overall efficiency of their experience,...
